Eating disorders are serious mental conditions in which a person either eat much less or much more than an adequate need of body. This eating behavior not only negatively impact on person’s health but also on emotions and ability to function properly. Eating disorder might be dangerous and can lead to serious health issues such as, heart and kidney problems and sometimes death. Treatments and prevention definitely can help this kind of patients.
TYPES OF EATING DISORDERS AND THEIR SYMPTOMS:
The main types are-
Bulimia Nervosa- This condition includes behavioral cycle like first person overeat or binge eat and afterwards they try to compensate that overeating wither by vomit or using laxatives.
Symptoms-
· Frequent fluctuation in weight
· Withdrawal from social activities
· Feeling loss of control during binge episodes.
Binge Eating- In this condition person eating out of control in short period of time and also keep eating even after they are full, followed by the feeling of guilt, shame and distress of eating out of control.
Symptoms-
· Eating uncontrollably
· Excessive weight gain
· Eating when even not feeling hungry or already full
· Eating past the point of discomfort.
Anorexia Nervosa- In this condition person strictly restrict food, avoid food or eat very less amount of food. This may lead to extreme weight loss or dangerous weight loss.
Symptoms-
· Feeling or thoughts like they are overweight, even when they are actually not
· Denial of hunger
· Low body weight
· Thin or loss of hair
· Dry skin and brittle nails.
TREATMENT/PREVENTION:
As eating disorder negatively effect physical and metal health both thus at initial stage treatment also include a primary care doctor, a mental health physician and a dietitian.
In severe cases or person developed serious health issues along with eating disorders needs special care and might require hospitalization too.
